Jan van Wingerden, Czech Organ Music of the 19th - 20th Century

janvanwingerden250x250The Dutch organist Jan van Wingerden (1950) studied piano with Piet Meijer and organ with Ben van Oosten and Daniel Roth and other teachers. Due to the extensive knowledge of these virtuosos, Jan van Wingerden is a master in applying organ techniques and registration to his playing. His musical depth and liviness give make his playing powerful in expression. Due to his strong personality, each work has his own specific character. Partly because many international contacts, he became close friends with the Praque organ virtuoso Jiri Ropek. Inspired by the impressive playing of this organ virtuoso, he developed a great interest in Czech organ music. After he had studied many works, he planned to make these Bohemian organ compositions more widely known by producing this cd, which happens to be a worldwide première. In order to adequately do justice to these works, it was necessary to use a large symphonic organ with many nuances. The choice was inevitably the Van den Heuvel organ in the Nieuwe Kerk in Katwijk aan Zee.
