Wolfgang BAUMGRATZ was born in Meersburg on the Bodensee in 1948. He studied church music in Heidelberg and Freiburg. In 1976 he passed the A-examination Evangelical Church music. A scholarship enabled him to have organ lessons from Albert de Klerk in Amsterdam. He continued his studies in the Masterclasses given by Luigi Tagliavini, Ewald Kooiman, Daniel Roth, Marie-Claire Alain and Jean Langlais. In 1979 Wolfgang Baumgratz was appointed as organist of the Bremen Cathedral and a year later he became organ teacher at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. In 1984 he got a professorship and since 989 he is the head of the Department of Church music. He gives organ concerts throughout Europe, is a soloist at many festivals and has often been a member of the jury at international organ competitions. In 1990 Professor Baumgratz was elected deputy chairman of the Internationale Gesellschaft der Orgelfreunde (G.D.O.). His statement about Van den Heuvel-organs:
