May 30 the assembly works started in the church of Nieuwaal.
The organ for Nieuwaal is ready in our assembly hall. The organ case was made in 1909 by Maarschalkerweerd & Son. The interior was renewed in 1967 by Willem van Leeuwen. The organ case has been restored and the organ has been overhauled, expanded and revoiced.
The church council of the Protestant Congregation in Sneek has developed a plan to make the Martinikerk future-proof and multifunctional with a renovation. In the design by architect Kijlstra-Brouwer from Beetsterzwaag, the elliptical, green extension between the bell tower and the church building stands out. Much is being renovated and added on the inside. In 2021 the choir organ was disassembled and stored at the organ builder.
Organ builder C.G.F. Witte constructed the new organ in 1864. It was an organ with two manuals and a permanentely coupled pedal. The instrument was inaugurated on April 24, 1864 by J.H. Paling of Rotterdam. On March 11, 1923 a fire hit the church and damaged the organ. Sanders restored the instrument.
The organ was built during the period 1987~1989 by Louis Huivenaar (the well known reed-organ restorer located at Dieren, NL) for the residence of the Schalkoort Family. Louis Huivenaar partly used parts of used and historical materials in this instrument. In 2013 the organ builder carried out technical maintenance. The owner offers his pipe organ for sale because he can no longer use the organ optimally in his new terraced house.
