Boven-Hardinxveld, Gereformeerde Kerk (2012)

History

In 1888 donated the Church Council of the Reformed Church of Den Bosch, a cabinet organ to the Reformed Church in Tilburg for their church building on the Lange Nieuwstraat. The organ was purchased by the Reformed Church of Den Bosch in December 1880 from M. Lips of Zevenbergen. In 1902 Proper restored the organ. In 1923 a new church wa taken into use at the Molenbochtplein, where a new organ was placed by Spiering. The old instrument was placed by Spiering in the Reformed Church in Boven-Hardinxveld. The old organ case was no longer present, this was possibly replaced by Proper. Research on the organ showed that this was an organ of J.C. Schmidt, which was dated 1813. In 1966 the firm of Blank built a new organ for the newly built Reformed Church in Boven-Hardinxveld. The material of the old organ was used for the Hoofdwerk. Consultant was Jan Bonefaas. Bonefaas played the new organ at the inauguration on September 9, 1966.

Overhaul and additions

In the spring of 2012 the organ was enlarged and overhauled. Dissatisfaction with the sound and blending of the stops is hereby corrected. The instrument is extended with two pedal towers to accommodate a wooden Subbas. This stop is from the Van Leeuwen-organ (1934) of the Christian Reformed Church in Rotterdam-West. The existing, barely sounding, Spitsgedekt 16' was converted to an open Holfluit 8'. The pipes added in 1966 by Blank did not blend with the historic Schmidt material. Most of these pipes are therefore replaced with new pipes. The composition of the Sesquialter is changed so it is now more useful as a solo voice and in ensemble. The organ has been completely re-voiced. Special care is taken with the Schmidt-pipes where only necessary repairs and voicing corrections were performed.

On the website of the church there is a gallery with several pictures taken during the works.

On March 23, 2012 the organ was taken into used again with a concert by the three organists of the church, Jan den Breejen, Teun Sterrenburg and Bastiaan van der Pijl.
