Oberlinger (1973, 20/IIP)

The Amsterdam-based Dutch organ builder G.A.C. de Graaf received the contract to build this organ for the new Reformed church in Hoogeveen (NL). The church community had previously worked with this organ builder to full satisfaction on the restauration project of another church organ. De Graaf worked out the design drawings and started various activities. However, De Graaf unexpectedly moved to Zaragona, Spain and the work stagnated. Due to this the church decided to contract another organ builder. The well known German organ building company Oberlinger GmbH from Windesheim was willing to continue the work according to the designs of organ builder De Graaf. Oberlinger constructed the different organ cases, the wind chests, the key- and stop action as well as the wind supply according to the drawings provided to him. They also manufactured the complete console with keyboards and coupling mechanism as well as related action. They delivered also several flue- and reed stops. The organ, with 20 stops divided over Hoofdwerk, Borstwerk and Pedal was inaugurated in 1973.

Bakker & Timmenga (1890, 17/IIP)

In 1880 founded Fokke Bakker (1842-1904) and Arjen Timmenga (1854-1920) their organ building company in Leeuwarden (Netherlands). In the eighty years of their existence as a family business they have maintained their specific traditional hand crafted work. On July 31, 1904, Bakker died. Timmenga continued, from 1919 his son Bernard (1889-1972) became his partner. After the death of Arjen Timmenga (November 16th, 1920) Bernard continued to work in the company until 1960. Bakker & Timmenga built this organ in 1890 for the Reformed church of Heeg. The organ case was designed by the famous architect Tjeerd Kuipers. A special feature is that the specifications for the construction of the organ were drawn up by the organ building company Van Dam & Sohn, and that Bakker & Timmenga this organ built according to these specifications. In 1955 the organ was restored by the same company.

The asking price of only Euro 24.500 is certainly interesting for a motivated buyer. For the new owner of the church, however, it is very important that this beautiful, characteristic and valuable pipe organ will get a good ‘second life’, preferably in a church and a congregation that will use the organ frequently. Of course, the organ must skillfully dismantled and relocated. Van den Heuvel Orgelbouw has much experience in this field and signed an exclusive contract with the owner of the organ to find a good destination for the organ and to arrange the transfer. Dismantling, repair and restoration work as well as the re-installation and further completion of the historic organ, etc. will also be conducted by J.L. van den Heuvel-Orgelbouw. The costs of these activities depend on the specific needs of the client and eventual assistant of volunteers for work such as transport, electrical installation, (structural) adjustments, painting work etc.. We look forward to work out a specific written quotation for the desired work.

Jeruzalemkerk, Rotterdam (2023)

front vandamThe Jerusalem Church in Rotterdam-Kralingen was built in 1907 as a Reformed Church. In 1910, the company of P. van Dam from Leeuwarden installed a new organ in the church. The instrument had a very nice façade and a closed organ case. It was a very solidly built church organ with a mechanical action and sliderchests. The organ was inaugurated on October 21, 1910. In accordance with the style of that time, the organ had a romantic sound and was described in the press as solid. Adhering to the idea that mechanical organs function better, the Van Dam company installed a mechanical pipe organ with a classic front. This and other comparable organs that the company built in these years are an exponent of the traditional classical line that the conservative Van Dam family set out. For this reason, their organs are counted among the last from the traditional period of Dutch organ building.

In 1955, the traditionally built Van Dam organ (under the advice of the Reformed Organists Association) was completely converted to the taste of the time and expanded by the Rotterdam Electric Church & Concert Organ Factory Valckx & Van Kouteren & Co. The solid wooden organ case with the façade pipes as well as the windsupply were demolished and have been lost. Fortunately, part of the pipework that was in the organ has been preserved. The new modern designed façade was given a so-called 'open arrangement' with large zinc organ pipes. The action was replaced by an electro-pneumatic one. Fortunately, the original windchests made by Van Dam remained in function, although the windchest of the pedal was enlarged by three tones. Valckx & Van Kouteren also added various new windchests and the organ thus received 13 new stops. The organ was inaugurated in September 1955, together with the renovated and modernized interior of the church building.

Fama & Raadgever (1984, 9/IIIP)

In 1963 Jaap Fama (1934-2001) and Piet Raadgever (1935-2023) founded their organ and harpsicord company in Utrecht. Before they were employed by Van Vulpen. They started in the former organ builders workshop of Van Dam (who worked with Maarschalkerweerd). In 1988 they moved their shop to Maarssen. The building style of Fama & Raadgever was at that period the so called “Scandinavian” style. All together they built 104 new organs and 36 harpsicords. Besides this they restored 41 instruments and took care for approximately 200 pipe organs. In 1995 the partners went separate ways. Piet raadgever continued up to 2005. Afterwards ormer employee Wim van Dijkhuizen was responsible for the maintenance of the Pro Rege organ.

Last year, the Reformed Church and the Reformed Protestant congregation in Rotterdam-Kralingen decided to merge definitively and it was decided to sell the church center Pro Rege. Early 2023, the building was purchased by a local real estate developer. Van den Heuvel-Orgelbouw from Dordrecht was commissioned to find a new location for the Fama & Raadgever pipe organ. Since then, the church services of Protestant Kralingen have been held in the nearby historic Hoflaanker.

Residence organ for sale (14/IIP)

The organ was built during the period 1987~1989 by Louis Huivenaar (the well known reed-organ restorer located at Dieren, NL) for the residence of the Schalkoort Family. Louis Huivenaar partly used parts of used and historical materials in this instrument. In 2013 the organ builder carried out technical maintenance. The owner offers his pipe organ for sale because he can no longer use the organ optimally in his new terraced house.

The organ case is made of mahogany. The shaped key-cheeks are made of coromandel wood. The key coverings are made from bird eye maple and ebony. The coupling operation takes place by moving the cheeks.

Van den Heuvel-Orgelbouw was requested to find a suitable place for this organ. The organ is immediately available. The asking price of the owner is Euro 26,900. No VAT is payable on the purchase amount as the organ is sold by a private person! The costs for dismantling and transfer are at the expense of the buyer. If desired, Van den Heuvel-Orgelbouw can be of service to you.

G.A. Hazen (1986, 12/IIIP)

The Saint-Fransiscus church is a Roman catholic parish in Breda (NL). The building was designed by architect S.F. Steeneken in a sober modernist style. The church building will be soon given another function making the organ (G.A. Hazen, 1986) redundant.

Hersteld Hervormde Gemeente, Nieuwaal (2023)

In 1909 the company of  Maarschalkerweerd & Zoon built a new organ with a pneumatic action in the neo-Gothic chapel of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Leiderdorp. In 1967 organ builder Willem van Leeuwen installed a new interior in the beautiful organ case. In addition to the façade pipes, two stops were reused: the Holpijp 8' and the Roerfluit 4'. However, these were provided with new languids and lower cuts. The monastery closed its doors in 1971. Van Leeuwen subsequently transferred the organ to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Den Helder. This church was also closed in 1990. The building then stood empty for several years. In 1995 it was taken into use as a Dutch Reformed church, but this church was also closed in 2013. In 2022, the Restored Reformed Municipality of Nieuwaal purchased the organ after our mediation. The organ is being overhauled and the organ case restored. The stoplist is expanded. An extra voice is added to each keyboard and pedal: Cornet IV, Dulciaan 8' and Fagot 16'. The high mixtuur composition is also adjusted and the conical Quint 1 1/3' is moved up an octave to make a Nasard 2 2/3'. The Pedal Quintadeen is replaced by an Octaafbas 8' of mahogany.

Laycock (1877, 11/IIP) organ

1877  this organ was built by John Laycock (1808-1889) for the Ickornshaw Methodist Church in North Yorkshire (UK). 1907 the organ was moved to the Carleton Methodist Church where it was used up to the moment the church was closed in 1999. At that moment the organ was bought by J.L. van den Heuvel-organ builders in The Netherlands. At that moment the organ was completely original except the electric blower (the hand pump installation is still present but is no longer in use). 2002 the organ was located in the auditorium of the Jacobus Fruytier high school in Uddel (NL). The owner has asked Van den Heuvel to find a suitable new location for this beautiful instrument. the organ has been dismantled and assembled in one of the assembly halls of the organ builder in Dordrecht. There you can see and play the instrument!
